NYSC takes free healthcare services to rural dwellers nationwide
The annual 2016 edition of the National Youth Service Corps ,NYSC ‘Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers’ (HIRD) was flagged off in Odonoko Community in Ijebu–Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State by Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.Amosun, who was represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honorable Afolabi Afuape, commended the scheme for its deep foresight and the widening of its horizon through the lofty Health Initiative for Rural dwellers (HIRD) programme.Amosun pledged to promote all genuine approaches towards improving the lives of the people. “I must say that this particular programme is in tanderm with the efficient health caredelivery programme as a focal point of our 5 cardinal programme contained in our mission to rebuild Ogun State”, he said. Director – General of NYSC, Brigadier – General Suleiman Zakari Kazaure, in his address said the goal of the HIRD programme was to mobilize Corps medical volunteers in the provision of health interventions through diagnosis, treatment, referrals and proper preventive mechanism thereby enhancing the general well-being of rural dwellers across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
The NYSC helmsman added that volunteer Corps medical personnel who formed the core of the team would work as health intervention agents in driving the program of the health initiative.
