Breaking News: APC confirms Eze as Acting Chairman in Ebonyi

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has confirmed Mr Nwachukwu Eze as the Acting Chairman of the party in Ebonyi.
The News Agency NAN reports that a High Court sitting in Abakaliki on Sept.28, struck out the case brought before it by a factional Chairman of the party, Mr Ben Nwaboashi.
Nwaobashi had challenged his removal from office by the Eze-led faction and the court presided over by Justice John Igboji struck out the case for lack of merit, saying that the removal followed due process.
Nwaboashi and Eze had been laying claims to the chairmanship position of the party since January until the Sept.28 ruling, which was in Eze’s favour.
Chief Emma Enukwu, the APC South East Zonal Chairman, told NAN on Saturday that the zone had recognised Eze as the authentic chairman of the party in the state.
“This is in line with the report of the committee set up by the party to review the lingering leadership tussle that had engulfed the Ebonyi chapter of the party.
“We are waiting for the final ratification by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC)”, he said.
On his part, Eze said he would concentrate on repositioning the party.
He said Nwaobashi’s supporters would be welcome into the fold but with the condition of maintaining discipline.
“Anyone who engages in anti-party activities will be sanctioned.
Nwaobashi, however, told NAN that the process was flawed.
“I don’t want to engage in a press war over this illegality”, he stressed. (NAN)

CBN-NYSC Loan: 310 Youths Get N3 Million Each

The first batch of three hundred and ten youth entreprenuers have benefited from loans under the CBN-NYSC-Heritage Bank Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme (YEDP).
The funds were disbursed to the beneficiaries, comprising serving and ex-Corps members, at a ceremony, which took place on Thursday at the Central Bank Headquarters, Abuja.
They were given loans of up to three million naira each at single digit interest rate.
In his address, the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said other applicants are at different stages of completing their loan documentation process.
Emefiele, who was represented by the Deputy Governor; Corporate Services, Suleiman Barau, recalled that the YEDP was introduced by the Bank in March 2016 as part of efforts to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.
He noted that the programme was also to ensure that the creative energies of the over 64 million Nigerian youths are harnessed to stimulate growth, address restiveness and promote economic development.
He added: “To realize this objective, the Bank, in partnership with the NYSC and
Heritage Bank, began the pilot seven months ago to inspire and harvest the entrepreneurial abilities of Nigerian youths towards creating over one million direct jobs by 2020”.
The CBN Governor also announced the commencement of the YEDP with other Deposit Money Banks such as Sterling Bank and Fidelity Bank in a bid to fast track the process of identifying budding young entrepreneurs and broaden the scope of the entire programme.
He said that the programme was open to 18 to 35 years-old serving corps members, graduates or artisans.
He added that “to overcome the bottleneck of collateral requirements for loans, the beneficiaries’ academic and NYSC certificates, third party guarantees and movable assets are allowed as acceptable collateral under the Programme.
“The programme has a revolving fund with target to create more than one million direct jobs.
“We encourage all Nigerian youths that are interested in being their own boss to apply online through the participating banks.”
Speaking on the occasion, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, thanked the CBN for supporting efforts to empower the youths.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Heritage Bank, Mr. Ifie Sekibo, said since the commencement of the programme, the Bank had worked assiduously with the CBN and the NYSC to develop guidelines and holistic risk management framework to protect its integrity and sustainability.

Google Trends reveal rising anxiety over NYSC scheme

Google says a rising anxiety on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme is popular on Google search this week.

Mr Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager for Anglophone West Africa made the announcement in Lagos on Thursday.
He said the search on NYSC was trending from Oct. 12 to Oct. 19.

“NYSC says some graduates will not be called `Otondo’ due to a lack of funds,’’ Kola-Ogunlade said.
`Otondo’ is a slang used to refer to corps members, who are not able to keep up with daily physical exercises during the orientation period.
The Google spokesman said that the release of 21 Chibok girls to the safe arms of their parents was also trending in the week.
“It was a tearful and joyful reunion for the 21 abducted school girls, now known as `Chibok girls’ as they reunited with their parents this week
Kola-Ogunlade the girls, who were among some 276 girls abducted by the Islamic Boko Haram 30 months ago, began to trend once news of their release was reported in the media.
Not least on Google trends was Mrs Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s First Lady’s shocking revelation and a president’s humour.
“Mrs Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s First Lady frustrations, which were displayed in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, revealed that the president’s administration was in the hands of a `few people’.
“In the interview she disclosed that she will not be campaigning for Buhari’s re-election in 2019, unless he shakes up his cabinet.
“The president’s humorous response that `she belongs to my kitchen, my living room and the other room’, ended up attracting lots of attention,’’ the Google chief stated.
He said that the Swedish Academy also gave a surprising shock to book lovers by awarding this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature to American 75-year-old folklorist and singer, Bob Dylan.
The spokesman said that many days after the prize was awarded, the academy reported that they were unable to reach Papi Bob.
Kola-Ogunlade said a music alert, a new song called “Diana”, released by Tekno, also trended in the week.
“The crooner who offered to give his baby “Big Cassava” in the hit song “Pana”, released a song called, `Diana’.
“ This time, the singer wants to dance for Diana, take her away and give her an updated love in his song co-produced by Selebobo and Kribeatz.’’
According to Kola-Ogunlade, other trending searches for the week are the “No Bra Day” which trended on social media to raise awareness on breast cancer.
“Similarly, the death of America’s Tommy Ford, the shooting to death of Olympic sprinter, Tyson Gay’s teenage daughter were also trending,’’ he said. (NAN)

NYSC: Free accommodation for corps members in Jigawa

The head of the State Civil Service (HoS), Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa, made this known on Thursday, October 20, after a meeting with the executives of the state chapter of the Muslim Corps members Association of Nigeria (MCAN) in Dutse.
Inuwa revealed that the state would be constructing lodges with 10 bedrooms each, situated in the council's headquarters in 2017, Daily Post reports.
He explained that the government made the decision to build the lodges in consideration of the accommodation challenge which NYSC members serving in the state, are currently facing.
The HoS said that the 27LGAs have been given directives by the government to make budgetary provisions for the project in their 2017 budget.

In the meantime, 310 youth entrepreneurs have reportedly been beneficiaries of the CBN-NYSC-Heritage Bank Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
The beneficiaries comprised of serving and ex-corps members, received the funds during a ceremony held at the CBN Headquarters, Abuja.
